Welcome to the Westbury-on-Trym Village Show website

News - March 2015

The 36th Village Show will be held on

Saturday 5th
September 2015

in the Westbury-on-Trym
Village Hall

The theme is Best of British

The 2015 Classes have been finalised - please take a look and start planning your entries!

There are lots of new classes this year, many of which reflect the Best of British theme.

Take a look at Class 88 in the Handicrafts section - we will be flying home made paper planes on Friday evening 4th September.

There will be a new Trophy this year for the Biggest and Best Grown Onion.

We are now focusing on stall holders and the entertainment for the day.

We are taking requests for Stall Holders and are particularly interested in local groups/businesses and also anyone who sells ice cream.

Chairmans Report for 2014 Show

November saw the start of our planning for the show. The money we had from Alexander May was spent on new plastic shelving units used to display the show entries, self supporting display boards for the photography section and 4 new banners with the Village Show name and a picture of the Village Hall.

This year was the 35th Show and so Coral the colour and the sea type was adopted as a theme. We had local Sea Cadets, Portishead Lifeboats, Barnacle Buoys shanty singers, homemade ice cream, candy floss, a treasure hunt and Pirate Pete to reflect the theme. As ever the village itself ran its usual collection of stalls.

  • 150 people put on a total of 600 entries.

  • Especially popular was the "Wet, wet wet" category from the photography section.

  • SusWot had 3 classes instead of 1 and donated 2 new trophies in the form of wooden bowls,

  • We matched the record entries of last year

  • The weather stayed fine on the Saturday after a worrying early morning shower and we had 637 adult visitors to the show

The local businesses and Committee members came up with a good variety of raffle prizes

We have had many favourable comments about the show and the Committee are willing to go ahead for next year. We are able to give the Village Hall a cheque for £1,500. It s a true village event and always has a good feeling of friendship and cooperation about it. Thanks go all who supported us and special thanks to my hardworking Committee members.
